about

It can be difficult to find an instrumental rock band that holds your attention. The Black Leaves are a shining example of just such a band. In order to reach this point, each instrument must present a special, but necessary element to the group’s chemistry. In the case of The Black Leaves, the drums and bass set the scene for the message that the guitar brings to the listener. The guitar feels detached from the other instruments, but it is not any more or less important. All three musicians benefit from each other’s additions. Listening to the music is an active experience that should be done with the appropriate amount of attentiveness if you are to get the full measure of what they have to offer. But conversely, it is great ambient music as well. The Black Leaves have a very unique sound- dark without being evil, experimental without being irritating. The drums and bass are very jazzy, and the guitar is crunchy rock, seemingly influenced by both Jimi Hendrix and David Gilmour (of Pink Floyd). – Ali Zuberi
